it would make you wonder...

Dear Mr. taxman Lenihen,
I’m 32 years old and I own a landscape design [etc] company. I have been in business eight years now. To the point, may I ask what have you ever done in return for all the money you have, taken sequestered maybe, from me? You are always paid on time; You never give me discount; You never say thank you; You’ve never even sent me a Christmas card.

I work very hard. I’ve never taken stress leave. I may close down if I did. If I were to close down and start back up again – I may get grants. In fact, if I were to close down and sign on – I [theoretically and no offence anyone] would get a Christmas bonus.

The funny thing is if I were to waste your money doing your garden – you can choose not to pay me… and when I don’t have enough money I close down. However, if you waste my [taxpayers that is] money… you still get paid and then you ask, no take more increase taxation again… it’s not really very fair put in that context? But then who am I… ?

Yours Sincerley,
Peter Donegan

ps: if you do need your garden done please call 01-8078712. If you ring from your office, I’ll cover the cost of the phonecall.

    Is it wrong that I found this funny?

    It’s such a pain though really. For the duration of the Celtic Tiger we all worked so hard to push this country forward and to make our lives better, and now in the downturn it seems the Government aren’t ready to help us out. In fact, we’re expected to work even harder just to keep the economy afloat. I voted Fianna Fail in the last election. Never again!

    Oh boy…and I was going to post today with a blast at the HSE! LOL

    I wanted to cool off a bit first, but perhaps I should strike while the iron’s hot, eh?

    It’s their waste that drives me insane…wasted time, wasted money, wasted effort. So much inefficiency, when on the family and individual level, we have to pull pure genius out of our beleaguered backsides to try to make a living from the nothing that’s left.

    Be careful now, before you’re Ireland’s answer to Joe the Plumber… !!

    @marie
    i have to agree with Darren – i found it quite humorous although with a serious underlying tone… ;)

    @darren
    what’s the options – Enda Kenny?! not a chance…. I would suggest Charlie Mc Creevy maybe looking for a transfer… [partly because he favours Ireland a bit too much - when in Brussels... although he may have to accept a drop in wages] and he’d be a great acquisition

    @susan
    Joe the plumber… makes me Peter the gardener… :)
    ‘inefficiency’ in every department sums it up pretty good. Funny how The words of ‘taxman’ are still so very relevant
