Today Fm Sunday Business Show

Feb.28.2010  by  Peter Donegan MI Hort

As mentioned previous, this morning I was on Irelands Today Fm business radio show.
How did this all come about? The producer of the Business Show Myra had read my blog posts on getting paid and sent me this email last week.
I came across you blog from your web site and was wondering if you were [...]

Feb.24.2010  by  Peter Donegan MI Hort

This Sunday 28th February sometime after 10am, I’ll be a guest on the Today Fm Sunday Business Show. It’s not my first time on the radio, although it is my first on Today FM.
Happily Surprisingly, for some I won’t be on to talk about horticulture as such
The show itself is described as offering…
the [...]

A Gardening Course …?

Feb.22.2010  by  Peter Donegan MI Hort

Over the last weeks I’ve been researching chatting with some friends about gardening and the usual how to bits of outdoor advice.
From those conversations came the suggestion that I should do a crash course of some format in ‘gardening‘.
I did teach horticulture and courses before. But this class request or what one should get at [...]

Fireblight

Feb.9.2010  by  Peter Donegan MI Hort

Two of the photographs above are of a collection of Sorbus trees that I had in my garden. They are now nothing but a pile of ashes. The sorbus you see are members of the rosaceae or rose family – the most of which are susceptible to a disease known as fireblight.
The first thing I [...]

How To Stake And Strap A Tree

Jan.29.2010  by  Peter Donegan MI Hort

Following the pictures above…..

tree stake at the ready… place the stake [generally] 3 fingers width from the base of the tree and 2 fingers width from the top. Once you have your position correct… push it in slightly.
A tree stake pounder [the yellow object in the photographs] is preferable although you can use a sledge [...]

Moving A Tree

Jan.25.2010  by  Peter Donegan MI Hort

The weather outside for the last few months as long as I can remember now has been a disaster being quite frank.
The funny thing about horticulture however is that life simply goes on. And when one misses out on a time frame of the season….. one often has to wait until the following year to [...]

So You Wish To Sow Seeds

Jan.22.2010  by  Peter Donegan MI Hort

Of course I have written pieces on this before but…. now is the time to get grooving in the seedling department….
It is one of the simplest things one can do. The beauty about these wieghtless flecks of dust is that one doesn’t need a vast area of space. One simply needs an area anything greater [...]

Maximum Minimum Thermometer

Jan.22.2010  by  Peter Donegan MI Hort

I have to admit I’m a big fan of the old style paraphernalia when it comes to gardens.
As you may also know I like nothing else than to browse the aisles of the garden centres and hardware stores on my weekends off….
When I was in B & Q this weekend… yes B & [...]

Suggestions for 2010….?

Jan.11.2010  by  Peter Donegan MI Hort

The year 2009 [go take a look and come back....] saw me take on a very varying range of what some may call challenges. I’m wondering if 2010 will prove as much a challenge….?
Now is your chance to recommend, suggest or get in touch. Whether it be in the form of a landscape project, an [...]
